$20 a drink, yet...

i went to this ultra-hip-mid-town-cool-concept-live-music bar named blue frog with a bunch of friends last night. its easily the most talked about place in mumbai these days. and i have to confess that i was very excited to go there and check it out.

i've always been a big fan of live music. hence, i was looking forward to going to this place. it was a friday night and there was a very random french band playing. though the bar was jam-packed, most people didn't have a clue what the band was playing or singing. trust me, from the looks of it, they were having a lot of fun.

when you go to a bar, you ougt to be tempted to get yourself a drink, right? i had an idea that the drinks are kinda expensive. i had been to this other place 'china house' a couple weeks ago where i was in for a rude shock for the prices of drinks.

another night, another shock. i bought myself and a friend redbull vodka. we got the drinks. he asked me to shell out a thousand-something rupees. i knew that i had got myself into buying an expensive drink, that was nothing but FLAT.

i was ok for having paid that much until i calculated how many dollars did i spend for one drink. after a couple sips of the drink, i realised that it was $20 for a drink. you could see the expression on my face. all the excitement that was building up while waiting to get inside the bar, died in a minute.

i thought to myself that i have been to the real good bars in california but the most i remember for paying for a fancy drink is $13, not a dollar more! and then i looked around. people around me were downing drink after drink like it's no man's business. then another thought crossed my mind. i thought to myself that in the daytime you hear all possible news about recession in the world, people having lost lots of money in the stock markets around the world - basically not so happy things.

i thought to myself again - $20 a drink, yet!?!?!

i love the radio

yes! i am one of the biggest fans of the radio. how many people do you know have a car music system but no cd's, mp3's or audio cassettes (old school) in their car. i am just one of them. even if i do have cd's in the car, they would be catching dust in the glove compartment, because life's pretty simple for me. if there is one radio station that i am hooked enough to, i need nothing else. when i was in the US, i was hooked on to kiis fm (102.7) in southern california - it plays in LA and OC. many people think that this station is too girly and plays the same songs over and over again. don't matter to me. i would religiously listen to the shows on the way to work, and on the way home in the evening. i would know the rj's, the 8:20 birthday game, some reality-type-fake-tears show on the radio in the morning and the works. they say that if you listen to kiis fm for a couple hours at a stretch, you would have listened to the same songs twice. i was still hooked on.

monsoon's here

here comes the season that mumbaikars love to hate. yes, this evening was the official arrival of monsoon in the city. it had drizzled a bit couple days back though. it started building up since morning when the sky started getting cloudy. by evening, it got really dark and at around 7 in the evening, came down the Gods from the sky pouring like crazy on the city. i was actually in two minds before i headed out for a round of swim to the nearby pool. i got in the car and drove a little bit. by the time i was close to my destination, the rain was banging heavy and hard on the roof of my car. i actually got intimidated, turned my car around and headed back home. i had kept an umbrella that we just got out of the attic last week (its a ritual everyone follows at the end of summer). though i had the umbrella and i had to walk only from my car to my home, i couldn't avoid getting wet. here i was taking all the possible care making sure i don't get wet. on the other hand there were

fascination for free food

its the day before christmas. probably my free food senses are too strong that i got an indication. there were rumblings of cake being distributed in the office on occasion of christmas. my free food sensory ears started locking in the buzz words like 'cake', 'eggless', 'chocolate', etc that i was almost sure there would be cake in office. just to make myself doubly sure, i innocently started taking walks near the supplies room and spotted what i was quite sure would be boxes of cake stacked there. more than being sure, i started being hopeful. and then i had to position myself firmly in my place and make sure i am not gone anywhere when the office boy started making rounds. and so there i was in my seat, tracking the progress of the office boy in the aisles before mine and estimating the time to arrival to my desk. and finally he was there. i looked up from my laptop as if someone disturbed me from real hard concentration. i looked at the cake and then looked a
