who killed bhutto?

first of all, my heart goes out to all the people in my neighbouring country, who are being put through hell. ever since i was growing up, i was made to believe that they are our foes more than our nieghbours. it was only when i went to the usa and had some very good pakistani friends, that i realised that they are just humans like us. the hatred could very well be orchestrated.

all i did last evening was to keep on watching news of benazir bhutto's assassination. my dad asked me to switch the channel since they kept showing the same scenes over and over again. while i kept watching those scenes, i kept thinking to myself (and also discussed a bit with my dad) as to who could have killed her.

my opinion could come across as a little biased. well, thats why i am writing a blog and not a report in a newspaper.

1. the president? - he has been facing a lot of opposition all of 2007 and more so since sharif and bhutto started planning a come back. though bhutto initially pitched herself as an ally of musharraf, the tables turned later on. she was fighting against him and was a formidable force.

2. the extremists? - the jihadis have always thought that all the leaders (musharraf, bhutto, sharif) are just pawns of the usa and that they will put the country in the hands of foreign power. they had openly warned bhutto before her re-entry into the country that their men will kill her.

3. sharif? - after watching sharif weeping last night on tv after bhutto's death, it could be a little tough to believe. but we gotta remember that he and bhutto were enemies all this while. they just seemed to have gotten together to fight against musharraf. probably, he must have known that bhutto is a more popular personality than he and even if he superficially showed to be her ally for democracy, he must have had an insecurity about power.

4. the big brother? - this could be the most politically incorrect statement i am about to make. the big brother probably doesn't want stability in this region, probably for several reasons - to keep the torch of 'war against terrorism' burning - maybe, to keep the arms race going - there could be a ton of other maybes.

mind you, the above options are not exclusive. it could well be the combination of any of the above in drafting the kill.
