a parking lot called mumbai
I found this very interesting picture on google while trying to search on stuff for traffic conditions in Mumbai. Many parts of the city turn pretty much like the image above day after day after day. The only difference is that there is a huge variety of cars and bikes (which my wife calls creepers on the street) besides these heavy duty trucks.
My heart goes out to all those who have to travel on these roads everyday (including me) and eventually learn to accept it as a way of life. If traffic wasn't the only problem, there's parking to think about. Trying to go about the city on your own without a driver is absolutely a nightmare. Parking Space, in a few years from now, will become the most coveted space that will sell at a premium.
I was waiting for my wife at a junction in a very populated business district in Mumbai. I could see the half baked infrastructure collapsing in front of my eyes. There's no place for people to walk or cars to drive. But the best part of all this is - people in Mumbai have learnt to live this as a part of their regular lives. These things don't affect them after all!
