We are like this only!

what to do? we are like this only! - this is how goes a not-so-old saying about indians. i came back from a very beautiful (but short :( vacation from Munnar, Kerela. Before I go into what I'm here to say, I must say that Munnar is a very very beautiful place.

We were put up at one of the best resorts in the city, probably one of the better resorts in the country. Obviously, you would expect decent families come to have a vacation during Diwali. The families were really good. Somewhat cosmo - dominated by a Gujjus (you'll find us everywhere!).

However, the worst in these good families come out in the dinner room. We made our way into the dinner room (pretty chic looking - well furnished) a little late since we got caught in playing Taboo in our room. We got there and it was just beginning to get crowded.

Soon a huge crowd of people descended onto the room from the top floor where the cultural program just ended. And then what happened was quite chaotic. People were running to hold on to dinner tables just like you would run for your life in case of an emergency.

They started bombarding at the self service counters like no man's business. They were clearly there to conquer a goal. While they were filling up their plates like a thief fills up his sac with cash in a rush, we heard loud sound of a gentleman fighting with the guys at the restaurant. I didn't quite comprehend what he was shouting about, but i guessed it had to be for poor service or lack of it.

I got into a discussion with others on the table on who is to be blamed - the ultra suave family men or the ultra rich hotel who's sucking each penny from their customers and failing to give the best service. I have to be mean and say the former. Especially, the way we behave at the time of dinner. We make sure that we make lives of the waiters miserable. We shout on top of our voices for them to come and serve us first and then rest of the world.

Even when the poor waiter brings all that he promised, we whine about the food not being good or it being cold. The poor guy has no option but to nod again. While we were discussing and arguing on this topic, my brother said that he had a fight with the hotel guys just a few days before we got there. Thats because they had abruptly cancelled our booking. Now, that again made me re-think who should I blame more.

It's really the chicken and egg problem, right? But things like these make me think what is it that makes us so insecure? Why do we always get a feeling that somebody is gonna cheat us and we've gotta be really alert? Well, the reason could be that the country has been through tough times and it might still take some time before we feel less insecure. Till then, we have an excuse - what to do? we are like this only!
