chaotic mumbai traffic

Calling the Mumbai traffic chaotic would be an understatement. I realised it the most when I had to drive my dad's new car on Mumbai roads to and back from work. Life was all good till I was travellig by cab - of course the heat would get onto me. But the experience of driving on Mumbai roads can very well be maddening.

The condition of the roads is so messed up. I wonder why do people even think of buying new cars when they know that bringing the car out on the road is gonna mess the car up in a month. My dad's new car is just a month old and it has been through hell. there are few scratches already. Well, that's nothing new.

The infrastructure of the city just cannot keep up with the increasing number of cars and the increasing number of people on the roads. I challenge anyone who's reading this blog to come up with a plan to match infrastructure to the exploding population. It is impossible.

The thing that irritates me the most is that its not just cars on the roads. Its a million people ready to cross the road just when you're about to pass. That is very frustrating.

The 2 groups of drivers I hate the most have to be the bus drivers and the bike drivers. The bus drivers don't give a damn to who's around. Its like they've bought the roads of the city. As soon as they move out of the bus stop, they necessarily have to cut into the second lane. Like I said, they don't care about the poor car drivers in the second lane. Who's gonna tell them.

The other group is the bike riders. That number has gone up tremendously in the past few years. The bike riders are the most frustrating at traffic lights. They're like sand in a jar full of big stones. They just percolate from wherever they can, brushing and rubbing against your car.

For those who experience this mess everyday, my heart goes out to you. For those who don't have a clue what I'm talking about...my heart goes out to you as well!
