It really did happen!

Against the beliefs of a lot of sceptics, a little re-union of my engineering classmates did happen on Sep 8 in Mumbai. There's nothing more fun than catching up on old times with friends. Its a mixed feeling that you tend to come out with. For a moment, you think so much has changed. And then again you say to yourself - nothing really has changed. they're all still the same!

race to the cash counter

don't get deceived by the title of this one. has got nothing to do with shopping or retail etc. what i am gonna talk about is a sweet little indian (or maybe asian) culture that tends to get nasty at times. we all go out with friends and family out for lunches and dinners on special occasions. it's all cool when you go out with friends, but when you go out with family, especially your wife's relatives, it gets a little tricky. there's usually a fight about who's gonna pay the bill. mind you, i said a 'sweet indian culture' - so the fight is not because nobody wants to pay the bill...its because everyone wants to be the one to pick up the tab and treat everyone else. last time when we out for lunch with our relatives, i was given strict instructions by my wife not to let anyone pay the bill this time. it almost came to the extent of her doubting my smartness. she's like, we have invited everyone for lunch - so you better make sure you're the one who p...

Vegetarians eating in Vietnam

Before I start my post, I must admit that I am not a food blogger. Hence, you may not be treated with culinary adjectives commonly found in a food blog. This post is a continuation to my endeavor to share unique travel and life experiences that could be of value to those reading and sharing these posts.  We were an eclectic group of 10 traveling to Halong Bay, Hanoi, Hoi An and Danang in Vietnam in the first week of May. While there is much to talk about the overall experience of traveling in Vietnam, I choose to restrict my post to places we enjoyed eating and drinking at as vegetarians (not vegans) from India.  Since the group had one member who had religious dietary restrictions (Jain food only), we stuck to the safe bets of Indian restaurants viz. Annam in Hanoi, Sri Spices in Hoi An and India Family in Danang. The idea of this blog is to share places / food other than the above where we found good vegetarian options, besides of course trying the local brands of beer....
